What Was New In 2002

Following the Lewes floods in October 2000 the challenge to find new and quality wines to replace some of those lost was quite demanding. The team enjoyed taking up this challenge and found some great wines for the portfolio, especially from France. With some exciting Bordeaux wines leading the way.

Bordeaux

Chateau Haut Nivelle Bordeaux Superieur 1999
A firm wine with rasping tannins balanced by good damson fruit and a traditional quality. The ideal balance and good weight makes this wine excellent with roast beef.

Chateau Saint Hilaire Medoc 1999
A fine Traditional wine with a good black fruit and a smooth flavour balance. Medium bodied the weight and style of this wine makes it ideal to accompany roast meals and steaks.

Chateau De la Nauve St. Emilion 1999
A full flavoured St. Emilion with plummy fruit flavours and good complexity. This traditional style weighty wine needs red meat dishes for the full lasting complex finish.

Ch. Corps de Loup Premieres Cotes Des Blaye Cru Bourgois 1998
This wine gives all the quality you would hope for in a Bordeaux at an excellent price. Full and traditional with excellent black fruit flavours this mouth filling wine will go well with roast beef.

Loire Valley

The Loire Valley range was increased with 2 new red wines (Chinon and St. Nicholas De Bourgeill) and a Demi Sec Vouvray for those with a sweet tooth. On the white wines a quality new Pouilly Fume was sourced and with the Sancerre and Muscadet Sur Lie this regions wines offered plenty for the consumer. The tasting team were very pleased to have these outstanding wines from this region.

Domaine Guenault Touraine Sauvignon
A crisp dry sauvignon wine with a lovely fruity character perfectly balanced by the medium finish. This wine is enjoyable on its own, especially on a summers afternoon and will accompany fish or chicken dishes.

Gilles Blanchet Pouilly Fume 2001
A quality Pouilly fume with great depth and a full finish. This wine has the minerally quality expected in Pouilly Fume as well as gooseberry and green gage fruit and is ideal with fish dishes.

Roger Champault Sancerre
A full flavoured dry wine with a prominent nettle and thistle aroma. This wine has a gooseberry character with a new world style fruit balanced by the acidity and length. Seafood, Chicken and Pork.

Domaine Duveau St. Nicholas de Bougueill
A medium bodied red wine with good fruit flavour and a silky finish. A very pleasant wine with dishes like Spaghetti Bolognese.

Prince De La Deviniere Chinon
A light, easy drinking wine with berry fruit flavours. A pleasant wine this is enjoyed on many occasions but goes especially well with tomato pasta dishes.
