Harveys In The Wine Trade
A Brief History
Records of 1794 detail the delivery of wines from
Harveys to customers in the Lewes area, evidence from that period
indicates that the founders of the company were professionally involved
in the wine trade long before it was decided to diversify into brewing.
Until the middle of the last century Harveys was bottling Golden
sherry for Gonzalez Byass, twenty year old liquor brandy for Martell,
and dry gin for Nicholsons of London. This range was supported by
our own brands of Irish Whisky, Lewes Blend Scotch Whisky, Old Jamaica
Rum, Ginger Brandy, Orange Bitters and many of the finest names
of French wine including Pommard and Margaux.

Todays Wine Challenge
Today Harveys wine team has a multitude of tasks with the diversity
of flavours and styles of wine available to an expectant public. Harveys
expertise lies with the quality wines they supply to the Pub and Restaurant
Trade as well as the wide variety stocked in the Brewery Shop in Lewes.
The Wine Portfolio in 2005 included not only a vast range of more
traditional wine regions such as Bordeaux, Burgundy and the improving
Australia and South Africa but also lesser known countries such as
Greece, Luxenbourg and Austria as the tasting team strive to offer
diversity and quality in a competitive market.
Harveys were also the only stockists in England of many of the Laurus
Cotes du Rhone range and Ramos Pinto Adriano port and Bons Ares white
wine as the team increase the wines directly imported by the brewery.
The latest import adventure being the amazing value Alsace wines from
Domaine Viticole de la Colmar.
