ALSACIAN SENSATION
Domaine
Viticole de la Ville de Colmar
Harveys imported some amazing value wines from the above in 2005
with a range comprising of no less than 10 different wines from Alsace.
Whilst the wine team were confident in the quality and flavour of
the wines Alsace has traditionally been a difficult region to sell
commercially in the English market. However any fears the team had
about stocking these wines soon dissappeared as they have quickly
developed a following.

Founded in 1895 the Domaine Viticole de la Ville de Colmar enjoys
a particularly privileged situation in the heart of the vines of Alsace.
The winery owns a variety of Grand Cru Vineyards and works with grape
growers to produce excellent wines from the differing soils of the
Alsace region. The company is very innovative and the current managers
(Mr & Mrs Jean-Remy Haeffelin) have over seen the award of the ISO
9001 certificate in 2001. This certificate is awarded in France for
standards of wine production and Viticole were the 4th winery in France
to receive it for all activities related to wine making.
The
Wines
Most noted for floral and aromatic wines Alsace produces a whole
range of styles and flavours from a selection of grape varieties ideally
suited to the local climate. Riesling is regarded as 'The King' of
the region but other great wines come from Muscat, Tokay Pinot Gris,
Gewurtztraminer, Sylvaner and Pinot Noir. Harveys imported all of
these styles including a Pinot Noir rose as well as a full oaked red,
Grand Cru Gewurtztraminer and Tokay Pinot Gris and the sweet Selection
des Grains Noble and Vendange Tardive.
